I’ve never used the BigCommerce shopping cart solution. Until now. Today I started on a new project – an ecommerce site that is an offshoot off an existing site, using a drop shipped product line. (if you are anything like me you have too many ideas in your head and not enough ideas realized, including all the blog posts I keep thinking of while writing this one)

Is Bigcommerce the best online shopping cart solution? I’m not sure, but I can tell you that over the next several weeks I’ll know a lot more about it. I’ll share my experience with you starting from scratch until I’ve turned it into a profitable website. I expect a site to become profitable quickly so we’ll know soon if this is going to work.

Before deciding to use BigCommerce I reviewed many shopping cart solutions. In another post I’ll describe the approach I took to defining my ecommerce needs and narrowing down the shopping carts to a select few, and finally deciding on BigCommerce. Now I’ll focus on my experiences with BigCommerce. Maybe it will help you when you create your next site.

BigCommerce allows a two week trial period with full access to your setup, learn and administer your storefront. You’ll receive an email shortly after you sign up with links to the BigCommerce knowledge base. I found these links to be pretty comprehensive and useful – a nice feature when you are navigating into new territory.

Good to know:

BigCommerce essentially requires that you purchase an SSL Certificate for about $79 a year.
